April 25, 2015 -- New Sessiid trapped - 3:30 PM

We are running two sessiid traps. Each one is hanging on a PVC pole in the Backyard area of the SERC. A sessiid trap is designed to attract and capture moths that are specifically wasp mimics in the Family Sessiidae:

A Single specimen was trapped today -- Left Trap Pheromone: PB-SYVE lure.
This is turning out to be pretty interesting I am noticing some small wasps in the traps as well -- I will have to read up on the relationship between the wasps and the moths.

April 24, 2015 -- Sessiid trapping begins

Today, I set out my two sessiid traps. Each one is hanging on a PVC pole in the Backyard area of the SERC. A sessiid trap is designed to attract and capture moths that are specifically wasp mimics in the Family Sessiidae:

These moths are amazingly beautiful and difficult to find withot the use of pheromone traps. I have used two different pheromones ( 1 in each trap) to see which one draws which species. According to the instructions have hung the traps 40 feet apart.

We will watch and see how they actually do! All species trapped will be recorded here.

March 12, 2015 Events

Nothing but cold snaps and rain for the last 2 weeks! Brutal and it impacts the small critters a lot. I caught 2 small moths during a break in the rain last night and they will be on the spreading board soon.

Looking forward to the coming of warm weather.

March 4, 2015 - Lighting Night 1

Went lights up at about 8:00 and down at 12:30 AM. Lots of Tipulidae - Crane flies everywhere. I will get some pix tonight while lighting. There must have been 30 of them on the sheets. A few moths and a few flies were seen along with 1 small wasp.
