Hi Team,
AMAZING work out there today!!!! We have reached 760 observations!!! WOW - this puts us in a good position to top last year's 1007 observations overall. Also we are already at 218 species (last year we finished off with 254)!
Abbie is holding the lead in both observations (102!!) and Species (55!!!!) and Abbie your pics of the Gnatcatcher in the Bush Sunflowers are amazing!!! Huge shout out to all of the incredible photographers contributing - it is such a pleas...
Congratulations to everyone on another day that far exceeded our expectations! When I set a goal for 65 observers today, I definitely underestimated how many more people would be participating on a weekend day - we had DOUBLE the number of observers as yesterday!
We also surpassed our goal of reaching 400 species observed today - as of midnight, we had 461 species! Thank you to @bafinnan and
Hi Team,
What a fantastic start to this year's BioBlitz!!! We are already at 133 species and the sun hasn't even set yet!
So far Hayden is leading the charge with the most observations and Bernd is leading the charge with the most species and Jess is coming in second for both. I was out all day chaperoning a Kindergarten field trip but will be back in action on identifications and observations over the weekend :)
I do love that our top 3 observed species are all ...
The numbers are still coming in but we have surpassed 5,000 observations and over 1,000 species for the first two days! I think this is going to be a great set of results...... keep em coming!
Good Evening Citizen Science Friends!
We broke 1k observations around 1pm this afternoon!
https://citynaturechallenge.org/collective-results-2024/
We hope you are out safely and responsibly enjoying the #IndyCNC so make sure you get those observations in so we can have our best data yet!
Congratulations to user jessicah_naturalist for being our top observer at 23...
As I look over the lists, I still see some holes. Please keep an eye out for:

Northern Cloudywing
Tropical Checkered-Skipper
Orange Skipperling
Southern Skipperling
Sachem
Southern Broken-Dash
Ocola Skipper
Eastern Tiger Swallowtail
Southern Dogface
Sleepy Orange
Dainty Sulphur (surprisingly hard in our area)
Red-banded Hairstreak
Dusky-blue Groundstreak (this and the last hybridize in our area)
Reakirt's Blue

It's 10:45pm and we have over TEN THOUSAND observations! Not that there is going to be a winning city, but we're in the top 20 for observations out of the 691 cities participating! KEEP IT UP, NYC!
Battle of the Boroughs update: We've still have the same three-way split: The Bronx has the most observations, Queens has the most species observed, and Man...
Thanks to all you hardy souls who braved the heat and wind today in the name of the Brazos Valley City Nature Challenge. I could only take it until about 3:00 today. I thought the Big Sit was today, but it's tomorrow. I hope they get a break in the weather and are able to iNat the heck out of Brison! Good luck, everyone!
I just checked in on the project, and we're at 3,135 observations of 1,002 species by 135 observers! Am I making this too easy? Should I up the stakes? S...
Again a little chilly start to the morning and the afternoon turned cold and rainy but we are rocking it! The wind and rain definitely made me head home early. Thanks to all of our participants so far for getting out and helping document what is so special about Susquehanna County!
Don't forget we have a species guide to what's been seen in Susquehanna County at this time in previous years. You can find it here:
One word: AMAZING!
Let's keep on this pace and we will exceed our goals!! We are averaging over 1000 observations per day!! Truly all the work you are doing is warming my heart and blowing my mind simultaneously.
As I type we are at:
2,180 observations (just 1000 of our goal with over 2 days left!)
606 species (just 200 off our goal!)
We are on track to surpass our goals and I can't thank you enough for all you are doing to get us there!

2023 had our most ever April observations (367), counties (46), and species (20).
So far for 2024, we now have the most observations (450+) and the most counties (50+ so far). Also, now, the most species (21). Still possible on Blue Dasher, Skimming Bluet, Red Saddlebags, and Lancet Clubtail - these have all April records in the last three years.
Our final April days include warm weather and and a weekend - both good signs for submissions.
This post can hopefully be used by folks trying to identify or understand the distinction between the species formerly included in an expanded concept of Viola nuttallii. As used on iNaturalist, the name Viola nuttallii is used in the strict sense and applies to a species that is primarily found on the Great Plains. However, the name has continued to be applied more generally to plants across the western U.S. instead of only to the species from the Plains. I am posting this as part of...
Hi everyone;
It's great to see the observations start rolling. It looks like weatherwise, today was the best day for getting out there, but it's far from over yet. May of us are too busy taking pics, to bother uploading them as we go, so there'll be a flurry of posts over the next few days as we get caught up.
Happy iNatting!
Greg Pohl
Dear friends,
The second day of the City Nature Challenge is gone and we have more than 1000 uploaded observations. I'm pretty sure that you have more :) But this is okay not to upload them immediately, we will have 4 days for this after 29 April.
Short statistics at this moment:
1021 observations
425 species
33 observers
I hope you enjoy this competition and find interesting organisms for yourself.
With best regards,
Valerii

I hiked in the George F Canyon Nature Trail in Rolling Hills CA on April 27th. I observed biotic factors like , plants, bees and butterflies. The canyon was full of California bush sunflowers. This trail was one of the trails on the Palos Verdes Peninsula.
I also saw abiotic components like seasonal stream that runs along the trail.
We have lots of observations and a lot of different kinds of organisms. Little Rhody is punching above its weight class as usual! Be sure to tell your friends. We have until Midnight Monday to make our observations for the 2024 Providence Area City Nature Challenge

Thanks to all the additional members that loaded observations, well done. I know some of you must still upload and we can not wait to see when all the observations are in.
Team proud of you, we have now 1228 (421) observations logged, 547 (250) species listed and 20 (11) observers have uploaded their data. (Previous day`s results are in brackets)
It was a slower day in Mtunzini. We started the morning travelling in rain. Luckily the weather improved during the day. Again...
"Au fil des dernières décennies, les paysages façonnés par une agriculture intensive ont été le théâtre d’une perte significative au sein des groupes taxonomiques d’insectes, révélant une réduction spectaculaire de 95,1% de la biomasse totale en seulement 24 ans, selon une étude publiée dans Pest Science en 2023. Cette réalité complexe souligne l’urgence d’explorer comment ce déclin favorise l’émergence de bio-ravageurs, nécessitant une analyse approfondie.
We're nearly halfway through the City Nature Challenge and we're already up to 85 different species! At the moment it looks like osarenogae is winning the Global Explorer prize with some lovely observations from Abuja, Nigeria. Can someone beat that over the next two days? And don't forget there's also a prize to get the first observation from your country.
Thanks to everyone for sharing your observations so far. We're looking forward to seeing what you find over the next two d...
The early sunlight was a ruse - the temperature dropped throughout the day, and the wind picked up as the clouds moved in. Rain is in the offing.
Still, we have folks out collecting data! I headed to Round Pond and picked up a lot of mosses and lichens, and even a few moths. Heard my first black-throated green warbler of the season, too. But did not see or hear the sandhill cranes that are supposedly nesting there. If you head that way and can get them, awesome!

Here we go!!!
After a surprisingly snowy first week, the weather is back on our side. Coming into the first weekend, we have Erfan in first place, with an impressive research grade observation !
Great time to get out there and try to take the lead :)
