City Nature Challenge - metro Edmonton region results!

Hello everybody!

The final upload period is over, and the results are in! This year, we reached a total of 2844 observations of 540 species, by 102 observers, and identified by 231 different people. That's more than double last year's number of observations (1377 observations of 409 species), which is awesome to see! It's been great looking through all the observations and seeing such a wild range of species.

Our top observer was @cindyleedanylukboisvert (846 observations of 177 species) followed by @caterpillerlover (258 observations of 163 species) and @whitemudwayne (230 observations of 133 species.) Great work and congrats!

If you couldn't get enough of bioblitzing, the next big one coming up is the metro Edmonton Biodiversity Challenge 2024 (https://inaturalist.ca/projects/metro-edmonton-biodiversity-challenge-2024) which runs June 13-16. It's amazing what difference another month makes, so we can expect a lot more different species of plants and insects etc. by then!

Thanks for all your hard work making this year's City Nature Challenge so successful!

Cheers,
Dan

City Nature Challenge ends today!

Today is the last day to make observations, so you have until midnight to find some more urban nature!

However, you have until May 6 at 9am to submit your observations. That means if you took some photos over the weekend, you still have a week to process and upload your photos.

So far, we've surpassed last year's numbers for observations and different species, which is exciting! ItWe're a little bit behind in terms of number of observers, so if you haven't made any observations yet, today is your day. 😉 Bring a friend along and see what you can find.

Thanks for your work putting urban nature on the map!

Day 3

We’re just over halfway through, but there’s still two full days left to get out there and get some observations in! At the time of writing this, we’re at 1154 observations, which is already close to surpassing last year’s numbers, so that’s fantastic. It’s really great watching the observations come in and seeing all the neat wildlife you’re finding - keep ‘em coming!

Hope you all have a great Sunday - happy bioblitzing!

One more day!

Hi everyone;
It's great to see the observations start rolling. It looks like weatherwise, today was the best day for getting out there, but it's far from over yet. May of us are too busy taking pics, to bother uploading them as we go, so there'll be a flurry of posts over the next few days as we get caught up.
Happy iNatting!

The City Nature Challenge begins tomorrow!

Hello everyone!

The City Nature Challenge begins tomorrow, April 26 (so in less than 3 hours!) It's looking like it's going to be a nice weekend for weather, so hopefully you can all get out there and get some observations in.

Any observations made between April 26-29 within our region will automatically get added to the project, and you have until May 6 at 9:00am to upload any observations and have them included.

Last year, we had a total of 1377 from 89 observers, and I think we can make it even bigger this year, so tell your friends and get your family involved.

Thanks for all you do to get urban nature on the map, and happy observing!
