Locally common in open bracken (Pteridium esculentum) fernland developed in sites that had been burned and/or pig damaged. The normal vegetation at this site is dominated by Sporadanthus traversii and Dracophyllym scoparium.

Most flowering specimens seen 'inconstant males' in this gynodioecious species.
