When my son told me I would need to have my favourite tree in the backyard cut down as it was rotting ... we had maximum rain that summer ... I thought "All right then, if I can't have the tree, I'll watch the stump rotting down." Little did I guess that 10 years later I'd still be obsessed with fungi.
That stump gave me about thirty species to learn to ID. My backyard more than a hundred. The streets and reserves nearby, a thousand.
Now, living in the nearby big city (Brisbane) I'm still finding my fungi ... so far have only scored a Coprinopsis in a planter, and a bunch of Marasmius luxurians on the landscaped podium of a large building.
Seeing a lot of other wildlife as well.
