The Mountaineers Foundation Rhododendron Preserve is a unique remnant of lowland Puget Sound habitat. It has been largely protected from logging, construction, and most human disruptions. It hosts the healthiest salmon run in Kitsap county, but it's other residents get very little attention. Help us find out what else lives here! In 2015, the Mountaineers Foundation will be collecting as much information as we can in order to create an "inventory" of the ecosystem at the Preserve. We will provide categories and species lists of what are possibly present, host outings to focus on specific categories such as plants or birds, and encourage visitors to post photos or sound recordings to our website of species (or evidence of species) they encounter while enjoying the preserve. The information gathered will be reviewed by volunteer experts, identified, and added to our inventory. Every contribution will make a difference! We need volunteers at all levels of expertise. The only requirement is curiosity and careful guardianship of what you explore. Make a difference, learn something new, and have fun outdoors! We hope you can join us.
