I've been seeing a bunch of these little guys on the Hidden Valley Overlook Trail for the past few weeks. They are on fairly exposed rocky surfaces and near ground cover plants (storks beaks?).

Description

A friend and I encountered an adult Southern Pacific Rattlesnake just outside of the park's native plant garden. We then observed the snake, as it first sought cover under the concrete of the drainage pipe, then squeezing between the nearby boulders to reach the thicker plants for better cover.

Description

A second adult Southern Pacific Rattlesnake that we encountered on one of the trails outside of the town. Based on its size, it was likely an adult male who measured approximately a meter in length. He was found in a small den on the hillside, and was brought out into the open for the tour group to view. He barely rattled as Greg manipulated him with the tongues and snake hook, and was returned to his den a few minutes later.
