Single basidiocarp growing on a hardwood log in a floodplain near Platanus occidentalis, Populus deltoides, Asimina triloba, Acer negundo, Aesculus flava and Ulmus sp. Cap changing from dark brown when fresh to bluish gray; 6.1 cm wide. Basidiocarp 5.3 cm tall. Stem and gills bruising slowly blue. Young gills white before changing to pink. Pileipellis a cutis with clamp connections between the hyphae. Pleurocystidia strongly hooked. This seemed unusually robust for P. americanus to me but it seems like a decent match microscopically.
