Description

Two individual trees, one has lost the leaves, one is with leaves.

HABIT / HABITAT

Habit : Medium size tree.

Habitat: found to be naturally present (wild) in rocky area. One young tree is growing out of soil accumulated in between 2-3 feet tall granite rocks, standing alone in open dry scrub forest (last photo).

Once a year in November, the locals set fire to the open forest, but this tree has survived the fire for (at least) two years.

Birds (red-whiskered bulbuls, yellow-billed babbler, common myna, rose-ringed parakeets) have been observed using that tree as lookout point even when there are no flowers. Koel & spotted dove roost on this tree occasionally.

Since the area is now becoming residential, the same tree is found planted on nearby roadsides and thriving where it has more soil.
