This Yellowjacket with its grasshopper prey was in the Miller Lateral fire road in the Claremont Hills Wilderness Park. Although I've never seen one before, I think this must be a California Yellowjacket, Vespula sulphurea. It looks much like one found only a mile or so from here posted to BugGuide by @harsiparker (https://bugguide.net/node/view/340753). The angle is a little awkward, but you can just make out the two vertical lines on the thorax. I can't tell which grasshopper is the prey. If you have any ideas, let me know in the comments!
