Description

While golden chinquapin is common in the Coast Range and western Cascades of NW Oregon, this is the only site I am aware of where it grows naturally on the floor of the Willamette Valley. The forest here is dominated by Douglas-fir, but has a diverse canopy that also includes Pinus ponderosa, Arbutus menziesii. Quercus garryana, and Quercus kelloggii. This site may not be around for much longer, it is on the outskirts of Veneta and the area is developing rapidly. There is evidence of seedling establishment at the site.
