Description

pleasant surprise, 3 yrs in the making

This scruffy little succulent sheltering under an even scruffier little thorn bush on the edge of an old, roadside, borrow pit site had been visited/observed for 3 yrs or more but it never seemed to do much apart from getting damaged by passing herbivores from time to time and then on 7th March, this year big excitement - flower buds. Not knowing when I might be passing again, I stole a small cutting and popped it into a pot back at the farm. A week later I returned the farm to find all the buds had opened and instead of the ciliated yellow blooms of Orbea lutea that I had been half expecting, there were all these greenish, spider-like flowers with cottony centres (that I'd never seen before)
