Description

I saw several of these bees on my walk along Mt Umunhum trail. They tend to be flying quickly and erratically in sun light at the edge between chaparral and California Bay woodland. I would see a quick bluish black blur near the leaves. Before I got a good look at one, I thought they were flies. Occasionally, one would land, most often lighting on Bay leaves, or Manzanita leaves, always in the sun and staying still for a few minutes.
