Mycologist with the New Zealand national fungarium (PDD), Manaaki Whenua - Landcare Research (now the Bioeconomy Science Institute). I specialise in the mushroom-like fungi and a few other groups (the Agaricomycotina), and some plant pathogens.

From mid 2024 I stepped back from attempting to add 'curatorial' identifications to all observations of fungi in New Zealand. The platform has evolved to favor high volumes of low-quality observations and identifications. The latter largely a consequence of the inadequate CV and GeoModel prompting misleading identifications. My specific professional interest is high-quality data to support conservation and biosecurity management in New Zealand, and fungal taxonomy in general. It is increasingly difficult to filter the good data from the bad. I now focus on providing input to identifications I feel are incorrect. The purpose is to minimise incorrect RG observations from New Zealand flowing to GBIF and onward. If there are specific NZ observations of interest, then tag me and I may respond.
