If you want to grow pine, keep in mind that the needles have weed-repelling properties and many plants do not like to grow underneath or around pine trees. The needles make great mulch for plants that tolerate it but it would be wise to keep pine separate from other garden plants, especially if you grow "weeds" or similar plants intentionally.
