Pseudo nitzchia cells are pennate shaped and stack on adjacent ends to form long chains. Chains of up to 20 cells are not uncommon. Cells contain two plate like chloroplasts and are golden brown in color.

Relative Abundance: Common

Habitat: Cosmopolitan in neritic zones, broad salinity tolerance 18 – 38.

*Pseudo nitzchia is a harmful diatom capable of producing the toxin domoic acid, a neurotoxin that causes Amnesic Shellfish Poisoning (ASP).
