Objectives of the project

Peacock is a charismatic bird native to Indian subcontinent. It pops up in practically every check-list of avi-fauna from various regions of India. However, most of the information about the bird's natural history, behaviors, ecology and its interactions with humans is anecdotal.
Although peafowl is found all over Indian subcontinent and is listed as species of least concern by IUCN, a formal population survey has not been carried out since early 1990's. Geographic distribution of many species is changing due to severe deforestation, habitat degradation, change in land use, climate change and many other ecological and environmental factors in recent years and peafowl is no exception. However, there has been no formal effort to document any changes in its population numbers or geographic distribution.
The objective of my project is to photo-document the geographic distribution of Indian Peafowl (Pavo cristatus). Everyone loves to take a picture of a beautiful bird like peacock! Photos clicked and uploaded by citizen scientists, nature-lovers and common people would give us excellent idea about current distribution of peafowl population on Indian subcontinent (and worldwide). We can also infer a lot of information about their life history in different parts of the subcontinent through photographs (when do they grow feathers, when do they dance, when does a peahen lay eggs, how many chicks hatch, when do the chicks become independent, etc.).
So please click as many beautiful photographs of this beautiful bird as you like and upload them on this forum so that I can use that photo-documentation for my scientific work (with your permission!)

Thank you!
