Found underneath garbage can after recent rain fall. Body is a purple color. Tail is about 2 inches long. Body is light colored underneath. He has four legs with four toes in front and five in the back. His face is injured.

Found under rock above penny royal at a pond. It was brown with light brown strips. Rattle was darker than rest of body. Was about 1.5" long.

100 or so baby rough-skinned newts with mom in damp whole that was uncovered 1 day prior. A wooden board was covering hole. The hole was 2 meters away from pond. Hole also had a mouse nest that moved in last night.

5 mice in dried up bundle of grass. The bundle was in a damp hole under a board. The hole inhabitants consisted of many baby newts and 1 mother newt. There were four baby mice and 1 full-grown one. They were 2-3 inches long and brown. Found because mother was making a high pitched squeak.

Found in Redwood Grove near a bay tree. The leaves are green and cupped. They are 2 inches wide and 3 inches long. The edges are prickly. The trunk is 4 inches thick and grows up tall and narrow.

This obsidian was found 3" under redwood duff. It was covered in dirt. It was near some plants. This piece looks to be natural and not shaped or used by people. It was about 1 inch in diameter and .5" thick.

Found in the oak woodlands. Shady with sun. Tallest plant is 3' high and leaves are about 4" long. The leaves are serrated and are damaged by deer and bugs. The bark is red and peeling to reveal smooth cold wood. There are about 11 plants in 10 meters.

This fungi was white and fuzzy. It was curled downwards on a dead oak branch. The branch was also covered with moss and lichen. The weather was cold and wet. The underside was dark.

This plant was found in the redwoods. It was 7 feet tall with broad leaves. The leaves were 2" wide and 3" long. There were major veins in the leaf and the edges were serrated. There was damage on most all the leaves. Some leaves are red from sunburn possibly.

Found in Redwood Grove in the shade. The ground was covered in Redwood leaves and branches. The leaves were fuzzy and so was the stem. The leaves were .5-.75 inches long. The plant was 2 inches tall. 1-2 plants in 5x5 meter plot.

Found in Redwood Grove and surrounded by redwood leaves and debris. Its growing near base of a mostly leafless bay Several of the leaves are red from sun damage I believe. Most leaves are nibbled on my insects and deer. The plant is 2 feet high and 1 other bay laurel 5 feet away.

Found in Redwood Grove covered in dried redwood leaves and fallen branches. The area is shady with patches of sun. Leaves are 1-2 inches long and the plant is about 3 inches tall. The leaves are smooth and green with massive damage. There are about 20-30 plants of this same species in 5x5 meter plot.

California Rose-winged Grasshopper (Dissosteira pictipennis)Observer

This grasshopper lives in the grasslands. It was a hot day and their were about 30 of them seen hopping around. This one was about 1.5" long. When they jumped, they went far and a red color was seen under the legs. You can't see any color while looking from the top or sides but from underneath you can see a red color under it.

Found on dead branch in the oak woodlands. This day was wet and cold. The fungus was cream colored and fans out. Its two inches long and about 1 inch wide. The underside consists of layered ridges that look like shriveled fruit. The underside was darker than the top and more of an orange shade.

This flower is a purple or lavender color. There are long stalks with flower pods that consist of 50+ little flowers. They were in the grassland but were creating a ring around a mostly dried up pond. The ring was oval shaped that was 50 yards in length and 30 yards in width. The ring was about 2-3 feet thick. The leaves are long, thin, fuzzy, and green. The flowers are stinky.

Yellow Garden Spider (Argiope aurantia)Observer

These two spiders looked a lot like orb weavers. These two were within a couple of inches of each other. They were two feet from a pond that inhabits frogs, snakes, and many other insects. They made their webs in 1 foot tall green grasses. The bigger one was 1 inch in length and .5 inch in width. The smaller one is 2 cm in length and .5 cm in width. The pattern was yellow and black.

The ant was found in the grasslands. It was within a couple feet of an opening to a harvester ant colony. The ant colony is at least 115 meters long. The ant is missing an antennae but is otherwise intact. It is about 1.5 centimeters long and the legs are almost the same length as body. The body is red in color but the head and the rear end are much darker. The ant was very "antsy" as you can imagine.

It was two inches long. It was sitting on a blade of grass in a used to be pond. The insect was tan and moved quick. The mantis was at first scared and ran away from us but it eventually grew still and used to our surrounding it. This was the only one we saw. The pond was in a clearing but there was a large tree possibly oak nearby.

Found in damp creek bed. There were about 5 plants lined up next to each other. The ferns were about 4.5-5 feet tall and 3 feet in diameter. They were bright green and very healthy looking. The ferns were in the direct sunlight and in a forest of oak trees.

This insect is commonly known as a rolly polly. I lifted a rock and found this bug rolled up because it was scared. There was no light under the rock. It was alone. This critter was fully intact. It was found in a Douglas Fir mixed forest. It is 1 centimeter in length. It was gray and had a hard shell. It rolls up when scared.

The flower was red and prickly. The base of the flower is also prickly but green and purple. the stalk is long, purplish, and skinny. The leaves are many but small. The leaves are green but prickly and skinny. The base of the plant is green and thistle-like. The plant was found in rocky soil near a cliff/steep hill. There are boulders, dead plants, scraggly tough-looking plants surrounding. The plant is about 2 feet high and 2 feet in diameter. There are about 5 others in a 20 foot diameter.

This flower was in tall grasses that occupied a meadow. The ground and grasses were dry and brown. There were no trees nearby. There was only one yellow flower that was seen. The flower was smaller than a dime. The petals were rectangle shaped with jagged edges. The center of the flower was dark brown and cupped up slightly. The flower was completely flat except for the center. The stalk was completely bare and went from green at the top to brown at the bottom. I saw no visible leaves because the plant was surrounded by tall brown grasses.

Rough-skinned Newt (Taricha granulosa)Observer

Found in a 5.5 foot diameter pool. Filled with leaves and debris. About 5 newts (possibly California Newts) of same kind and 1 or 2 of another newt species in the same pool. The pool was about a half foot deep. Some newts are 4-5 inches long head to tail while others of possibly different species of newt were around 8 inches long. The pool had many water striders on it's surface. The newt is dark on the top with a bright orange belly. Comes up for air occasionally. There was yellow in or around the eyes.
