What

Ringtail (Bassariscus astutus)

Observer

Date

Description

Long narrow body low to the ground and that tail..so many rings. Scurried across the road at dusk. I could not see the body color but the overall shape and ringed tail was something I'd never seen before (did not know about this creature before seeing it).

What

Mountain Lion (Puma concolor)

Observer

isleofbeara

Date

June 30, 2014

Description

Long and lean/scrawny, looked like a potentially malnourished juvenile mountain lion, with a very long tail that reached the ground and curved upwards. Smallish round head. Color was difficult to distinguish. I have seen a big and small bobcat before and this animal's tail was totally different. The head and body were nothing like a coyote's. Ran across Tioga Road on car ahead of us, heading towards White Wolf, into dense forest.
