As part of a project for the Ministry of Primary Industries, we are assessing the potential of large brown seaweeds/algae (orders Fucales and Laminariales) as indicators of pollution. Although true kelps belong to the order Laminariales, we will use the broader term here to include the Fucales.

As they are difficult to press, kelps are sometimes not collected as much as smaller ...more ↓
