Join us January 31, 2015 at Clark County Wetlands Park for a community-powered BioBlitz to find and identify as many different kinds of plants and animals as possible from 8:30 a.m to 11:30 a.m. The Data Watch Party will start at 11:30 -- prizes given for those that spot the most, the weirdest, the rarest, or meet the most scientists!
When you arrive, please check in at the BioBlitz Base Station located in the Nature Center Auditorium (park in the Nature Center parking lot and follow the signs).
Once you have checked in, you can go out in the Park and start recording all the different types of animals and plants you can find before 11:30 a.m. The point of the BioBlitz will be to collect this information from every participant, so that we have a final list of the total number of species that were observed at Wetlands Park between 8:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. We will do this by using iNaturalist.org:
- If you have a smart phone, download the iNaturalist app
- If you don’t have a smart phone, we’ll give you a field notebook and map, and you can record your observations at the BioBlitz Base Station.
-
We’ve got lots of ways to help you identify what you see!
- Take photographs of everything you can – this will provide the “evidence” we need to help identify what you observe
- Download the Wetland Park BioBlitz Field Guide here
- Visit scientists at various Science Field Stations located throughout the Park (we’ll give you a map when you check in)
- ‘Blitz with a Guide! Guided walks leave from the BioBlitz Base Station at 9:00, 9:30, 10:00, and 10:30
- Have young children? Check out our Tyke ‘Blitz station!
Signs, maps, and volunteers will guide you throughout the event. Dress for the outdoors with appropriate clothing for the temperature and sturdy closed toe shoes.
