I started off as a hiker in Southwest Virginia, primarily on the Appalachian Trail. And then, slowly but surely, I developed a love for trees. I am particularly fond of the American Chestnut and the Virginia Round-leaf Birch.

I am currently a member of the American Chestnut Foundation (http://www.acf.org) which is spearheading a number of efforts to return the American Chestnut to its former glory in the Appalachian forests. I continue my love for the outdoors and I maintain at blog at http://tgaw.wordpress.com.
