Frankly I don't even know if this was a slime mold or a fungus or a tree illness of some kind. Fairly large, the diameter of a tea cup saucer.
in the wood pile.
ID based on size
These fuzzy abdomen covered insects were found on two young beech trees. Several hundred were gathered, all rocking their abdomens back and forth, with dripping liquid from them, forming the fuzz that is in the picture. Beech bark insect????
Was walking through the woods and saw these. They were covering some of the branches of two, young American beech trees that were next to each other. They are extremely small. When looked at under a microscope, you could see they were insects. 6 legs, abdomen and antenna. The fuzz in the picture started about midway through there body and covered there abdomen.
Or big buck?
