rrainwaterDescription
Female and male, engaging in courting and attempted copulation. Picture is of male and female courting.
In brief, the male seemed to be strongly initiating the courtship process. The female was much smaller (approx half the size of the male), and attempted leave the male three times. The first time, the male followed closely and courtship resumed. The second time, the female fled ~7m and buried herself under leaves with only her head peeking out. It is possible that the female was attempting to mask her scent. The male followed her scent for 30 minutes before finding her. He resumed initiating courtship. The female fled a third and final time, about 15m along a circuitous path away from the male, and buried herself again, only her head showing above the leaf litter. This time, the male did not attempt to pursue the female, and instead curled himself at the base of a tree. The entire engagement lasted at least 3hrs, and did not result in any observed hemipene lock.
