West side of the levee, saw a single adult coyote trotting north. I shone my flashlight on it, and it stopped and looked at me for a few seconds and then headed on its way.

A companion and I heard at least two coyotes barking in the river channel area. We were unable to see them, but they were either on the east bank or on the large flat dry area in the middle. I heard one bark again, around 2 a.m.

What
Vermilion Flycatcher (Pyrocephalus rubinus)Observer
ophiuchusDescription
I was on the west side of the levee, and was alerted by two other birders. After spotting it, I rode my bike to the east side for closer observation. The bird was exhibiting typical flycatcher behavior, fluttering up and back to a perch on the river slope of the levee, and then a perch on a bare shrub right at the water's edge. This was immediately across San Lorenzo Blvd from Riverside Park.
