A small douglas fir sprout, about 2 ft tall. There were 2 more nearby, in an area that was dry and under some shade from some oak trees. There were grasses and dry leaves on the ground around it.

This is possibly a manzanita leaf gall aphid. It was a small manzanita bush, and inside the galls on the leafs were small aphid-like insects. It was in an open, dry, sunny area where there were grasses growing.

In a forested area under redwoods and live oaks, sprouting from the side of a ledge on the side of the path. Located in Redwood Canyon at Pepperwood. The fern was drying up a little, and not very green.

A group of about 6 sword ferns on a slope going down from a trail in Redwood Canyon at Pepperwood. There were some large Redwood trees right nearby them, and the area was shady. Some of the leaves were damaged, most likely from being eaten by bugs.

There was a rock on the ground that had a space under it, like a small cave, which is where I found this nest. There were 9 small eggs, each about 1-2 inches long. The nest was in an area where there were large boulders and it was shaded under some big live oaks.
