I raised 6 EBS cats last summer and all made their chrysalises in mid September. They were tucked away safely in my shed all winter. This is the only one so far that I was fortunate enough to see just after it eclosed. I can't figure out if this is a male or female. I didn't see it with the wings open.

Well, I do know that Black Swallowtails march to the beat of their own drummer, but I was still quite surprised to find this beauty in my shed this afternoon, where I was keeping six chrysalises for (I thought!) the winter! I hope the other five use a bit more common sense!

Live and learn! My first time raising EBSs, and I now know not to use a (new) suet cage to prop up sticks for them to pupate. 😬

If I posted all the Monarchs I've raised this season, I'd be sitting here for hours!

Hoping this gal ecloses successfully. The cat decided to J on the plastic side of the pop-up rather than from the mesh “ceiling,” as most do!
