on the way to the Farallon Islands, right after we saw a gray whale, several harbor porpoises swam around the boat. They were in a hurry, though, and didn't stop to chat...
neither exotic nor fancy, but I still like the common gull. I think the ones we saw, thousands of them almost all the way from San Francisco to the Farallon Islands, were Western gulls; the dark gray wing with a white border was very elegant indeed...
second gray whale of the day, closer to the Farallon, and closer to the boat. We could smell the breath, which wasn't pretty. She came very close to the boat, about 5 meters from it, so we could take a good look.
