I have also found the big moths to be docile and rather unresponsive. The females are fat with eggs and the males just sort of blunder around following pheromone trails. I think they're kind of like many of the big beetles, and live in a chemical world that would be very bewildering to us. Blind us and ask us to navigate by nose, and we'd probably seem sick and stupid too!
It's always a treat when something nocturnal gets caught out in good light - especially when you've got a camera handy and know how to use it. Great shot.
Thanks, Jon. Do you know where they usually hide during the day? Up in the canopy, maybe? This thing seemed like a giant tasty morsel for any passing bird, so I can't imagine it would last very long hanging out in the open like this.
